Eugene JenkinsA very fine athlete, Gene Jenkins was always at the top of his game whether the Owls were in action on the football field, the basketball court or the running track. In football, he was selected as the most valuable player in the 1958 Thanksgiving Day Hartford Public – Weaver Game, and following the season was named a halfback on the annual Connecticut All-State Team. On the track side, he won both the 60-yd. and 100-yd. Dashes in the 1957 Greater Hartford Invitational Meet, and in the 1958 New England meet raced off with first place in the 100. In basketball, was Co-Captain of the 1958-59 team, and was an All-District selection. Went from all of that success with the Owls to star in football and track for 2 years at Lincoln University; served 20 years in the U.S. Marines Corps and was commissioned a 2nd lieutenant; saw duty in Vietnam and received several commendations; earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Coleman College in 1994, and retired from the U.S. postal service in 2002.
