Leo PinskyWell-respected person, educator, athlete and coach. 3-sport standout, football, baseball and basketball, class of 1944 at Hartford Public High School; followed by World War Ii U.S. Marine Corps Service, stardom in football and baseball at the University of Connecticut, and a long and distinguished teaching/coaching career. Served 30 years as Farmington High School’s baseball coach; teams won 3 state championships and 411 games, and star player Dick McAuliffe was the American League’s Rookie of the Year in 1965, and played for the Detroit Tigers and Boston Red Sox. Received various coaching awards; in 1980 was the National High School Coaches Association’s Baseball Coach of the Year for District I. In 1986, was named to the Hall of Fame for Greater Hartford Jewish Athletes; received the 1988 Baseball Coach Gold Award from Scholastic Coach Magazine, and in 1989 was inducted into the Connecticut High School Coaches Association’s Hall of Fame. Received UConn’s 2003 “Red” O’Neill Award, citing his character, leadership, athletic ability and successful career.
