Stan Poole

Mention the tremendous HPHS basketball history, and Stan Poole quickly comes to mind.

He, as captain, led the Owls to the 1960-61 New England Championship, the school’s first-ever basketball title, and his play earned him selection as the tournament’s Most Valuable Player by sportswriters covering the action.

Connecticut All-State, 1959-60, 1960-61; All-Capital District Conference, 1959-60, 1960-61 and All-Hartford Times and All-Courant Teams 1958-59, 1959-60 and 1960-61; received Wickham Medal as Outstanding Athlete in Class of 1961.

Played for the Hartford Capitols, 1968; member of U.S. Army Championship Team, Ft. Sam Houston, 1970-71.

Graduate, B.A. Degree, Wilberforce University, 1968; Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities, 1966; U.S. Army Veteran, served in Vietnam, 1969-70.
