Pete Sala

Terrific left-handed pitchers are greatly valued at all levels, and Pete Sala, Class of 1956, was just that when he starred for HPHS teams on route to playing professionally.

Pitched the Owls to the ’56 City Championship, and was named to the Capital District Conference and All-City teams. Also played basketball; was 2nd Team All-CDC.

Signed with Pittsburgh Pirates and pitched in their system for several years.

Many memorable career wins include: in 1956, a one-hit, 17 strikeout, 10 inning 1-0 victory over New Britain, and in 1964 a perfect game as Moriarty Brothers defeated the East Hartford Merchants, 10-0, in a Hartford Twilight League battle.

Member, Hartford Twilight League’s All-Time All-Star Team.

In June of 1984, was inducted into the Hartford Twilight League’s Hall of Fame.
