Fred Ware

Long-regarded, by fans and opponents alike, as an outstanding basketball and baseball player.

Played 4 years of basketball, 1930-34; first black captain; All-State as a junior, All-City every year; lettered in baseball 4 years; played both second base and outfield.

Excelled at semi-pro level in both basketball and baseball; played for such teams as the Savitt Gems, Hartford Dovers and the Hartford Renaissance, and with Wiremold in the Industrial League.

Very popular figure for over 50 years in Hartford’s Parks and Recreation Program; coached many championship teams.

Fred was a Wiremold employee for over 40 years; retired as Safety Director; died in 1996.
