Stan Piorkowski

The coaching-success-story of Stan Piorkowski compares in a number of ways to those of others who’ve directed the fortunes of HPHS athletes and teams over a long period of time. With emphasis on hard work!

From 1967 to 1977, served as assistant coach of boy’s basketball.

Head Coach of boy’s basketball, 1978 to 1994; teams won State Class LL Championships in 1992-93 and 1993-94, and finished as runner-ups in two others, 1983-84 and 1984-85; coached several of the Owls’ greatest players, including NBA stars Michael Adams and Marcus Camby, Kendrick Moore, Troy Love and Tony Judkins, among others; finished coaching career with a 249-112 record, a 70% winning pace.

In 1994, was the Connecticut High School Coaches Association’s choice as Outstanding Basketball Coach.

Retired from coaching in 1994; teaching, 2002.
