Adriene "Abby" Pitts

One of Hartford Public’s sensational competitors in track and cross country.

During her tenure she won city championships in cross country, 80-yd hurdles, 440-yd dash and  4 x 100-yd relay.  Claimed state champion titles in 80-yd dash and 440-yd dash.  School record holder 1976–1979, in 80-yd hurdles, 1977-1978, 440-yd dash, 1978-1979, 880-yd dash and pentathlon.  Graduate of Class of 1979.

Her athletic gift earned her a scholarship to Central Connecticut State University where she made her mark in track & field. At CCSU, 1979-83, she was record holder in the following events; Outdoor track & field: 100 meters, 200 meters, 400 meters, 800 meters, 400 intermediate hurdles, pentathlon, and long jump. Indoor track & field: 50m hurdles, 200 meters, 400 meters, 800 meters, and pentathlon.

In addition to setting records in the track & field arena, she received the following outstanding honors and awards:

  • 1981 - AIAW All-American , 400-meter hurdles
  • 1982 - 1983 NCAA All-American, 400-meter hurdles
  • 1980 – 1983 All-New England, 100m, 200m, 400m dash, 400 intermediate hurdles, and pentathlon
  • First female All-American at Central Connecticut State University
  • Most Outstanding Senior Female Student Athlete, at CCSU, 1983
  • Recipient of Collegiate Presidential Award
  • Inducted into CCSU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1989

A strong professional in the insurance industry, dedicated servant in ministry, and has coached high school basketball and track & field teams, winning numerous national and city championship titles.
