Billy Taylor

Respected athlete, teacher/coach and official.

Four-letterman at Hartford Public High School in football, basketball, baseball and track; class of 1927.

Professional boxer, long-time referee; teacher/coach in Hartford School System for 30 years, 1937-67; basketball teams won 12 City Championships in junior high school program; many of his players went on to additional stardom and success in life.

Physical fitness instructor and coach as Lt. Commander at Coast Guard Academy during World War II; coached boxing at alma mater Springfield College, the Loomis School, Suffield Academy and C.C.S.U.

Honors included tributes from National Collegiate Boxing Coaches Association, and for 50 years of service by the Connecticut Boxing Guild.

Died in 2002.
