Dr. Daryl King

From 1969 to 1972, Hartford Public High School track teams won 10 State Indoor and Outdoor Championships, and Dr. Daryl King, Class of 1972, was an Owl’s super star on all of them.

His 5 individual state titles included the 800-yd run, the 300-yd run, twice, and the 600-yd run, also twice.

He established state records in the 600-yd run and the 800-yd run, both of which still stand, and his best HPHS times in the 400, 600 and 800 have never been bettered.

Finished as runner-up in 880-yd run in the national Golden West Championships; time of 1:51.5 set state and school records.

While attending the University of Connecticut, his 1:09.95 at 600-yds in 1976 was the world’s best time.
