John F. "Jack" Scully

Three-sport Hartford Public High School star athlete, baseball, 1941, 1942, 1943; basketball, 1942, 1943, cross-country, 1942; excellent student, Class of 1943.

U.S. Navy veteran, World War II, 1944-1946; served in Asiatic-Pacific Theatre; played 2 years of basketball and 4 years of baseball at Trinity College, 1946 to 1950; graduated with honors, 1950.

Pitched professionally in Cincinnati Reds’ system; also played in Hartford Twilight League as a strong right-handed pitcher.

Received law degree from University of Connecticut School of Law in 1954; in practice 44 years, retired in 1999; community leader in many ways.

Legendary basketball Coach John Wooden noted, ”sports do not build character, they reveal it.” Jack Scully’s character was, in the purest sense, that of a leader and team player, as he demonstrated throughout his impressive athletic career and admirable life.

Jack Scully died on September 9, 2004.
