Marcilyn L. PattersonMarcilyn Patterson starred in multiple sports and earned 12 letters in her four years at Hartford Public High School. She was a record-setting hurdler in track and played soccer and basketball all four years, eventually taking on the duties of team captain in all three sports. She competed in the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles, setting a school record of 48.33 seconds in the 300-meter event in the 1987 City Championship. She also competed in the 4x100 meter relay and the 4x400 meter relay. Conscious always of her obligations to the community, Marcilyn served as a volunteer while at HPHS with the "Meals on Wheels" program and was a tutor in the after-school program. She is a member of the National Honor Society, a Jacob Fox-Lewis Fox scholar, and a recipient of the Roy Wilkins award. Marcilyn enrolled at Connecticut College and continued to excel in track and field. She competed in the long jump and set a school record (1:03.72) in the 400-meter hurdle, finishing ninth in NCAA Division III championship. On receiving her bachelor's degree from Connecticut College in 1991, Marcilyn joined the U. S. Army, and she became an officer in 1994. Major Patterson is now on active duty with the 53rd Transportation Battalion as Branch Chief Operations Officer.
