George A. Guiliano

1959 * Football * “Best Quarterback”

George Guiliano played both football and baseball at HPHS from 1955 to 1959. He was the starting quarterback for the Owls under coach Ralph Worth from 1956 to 1958. He was named Co-Captain in his senior year. In 1958 George was named the starting quarterback for the All- Star Nutmeg Bowl game and received the " Jim Brown Best Back Award", for his extraordinary play.

Upon graduation, George received the following distinctions: National Scholar Athletic Honor Society membership, the Clarence H. Wickham Medal, the Clement C. Hyde Book Prize, the 1923B Good Citizenship Prize, the Frank J. Preston Prize, the Jacob L. Fox Scholarship Prize, the 1958 Outstanding Football Award. In 1959 he graduated with honors.

At Trinity College George played quarterback and later defensive end for the Bantams football team. He led the Trinity freshman football team to an undefeated season at quarterback in his first season. After graduation from Trinity he joined the Hartford Charter Oaks pro-football team as the back up quarterback.

From 1965 to 1969 he was a pilot for the US Strategic Air Command and flew 130 combat missions during the Vietnam conflict. He received the Air Medal, six Oak Leaf Clusters and attained the rank of captain.
