Denise Jones competed in swimming and track and field at HPHS for three years. In 1976 Denise broke several girl's HPHS swimming records. She broke the 100-yard free style record along with the 50-yard and 100-yard breaststroke records. She also swam for the synchronized swimming team for 3 years and competed in track and field. She was coached by Betty Gunn in swimming and by Joella Marshall in track and field.

After graduation Denise competed in swimming at Trinity College. Denise was all New England for 3 years, All New England and All American her senior year. Denise was undefeated her senior year, breaking the 50 yard breaststroke record and was named captain of the team, for her second straight year. Denise also earned the Trinity College MVP award for swimming. While at Trinity College she competed in track and softball.

After graduation Denise played in the Greater Hartford Softball League. She was named MVP when her team won the Greater Hartford Softball League Championship in 1987.

She was a vice president with CBT/Fleet Bank from 1985 to 2001. From 2002 to the present she is now the Director of Constituent Services for the Governor of Connecticut, Jodi Rell.
