Antonio Lopes1979 * Soccer * "The Great Kicker and Architect""Once we set our goals, make our plans and begin our quest, we must ask our selves each and everyday, how bad do I want it?" ~ Tim Daggett. Antonio Lopes played varsity soccer for HPHS for four years during which he was the team's captain for three years. He was a member of the Owl’s 1977 LL State Championship team, under coach Joe Amaio. He was also one of the finest soccer players in the state, earning All State honors in 1979. Antonio was also All CDC conference in 1977, 1978 and 1979. After graduation Antonio entered Bridgeport University and played NCAA Division I soccer. Shortly after he became their leading scorer in 1983. Antonio graduated from Bridgeport University with a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering in 1983. He played semi professional soccer in both Connecticut and Massachusetts. Soccer America Magazine named Antonio Lopes one of best professionals prospects in America. He played on the Hartford Portuguese squad that won the Connecticut State Cup. He remained involved in soccer for many years and coached youth soccer clubs in New Jersey, where in resides today. Lopes worked at Raytheon Electric as an electrical engineer and for Sikorsky as a part of their radar division. He has also designed and built four luxury homes. |
