Dennis Moynihan1956 * Football * "Mr. Football""It aint over till its over" Yogi Berra Few ever played the game of football with absorbing enthusiasm and intensity as Dennis Moynihan. In his senior year, Dennis was named co-captain of the Owls football team. He was also named to the All-State 2nd team during both his junior and senior years for his dynamic play. In 1954 the Owls football team won the CDC Conference and City Championships, with Dennis Moynihan playing key roles in many of those victories. For his play he was named to the All District football team. Upon his graduation, Dennis received the school's prestigious Clarence Horace Wickham medal for his contribution to Hartford Public High School athletics. In 1956, Dennis entered the University of Connecticut where he played for the Huskies football teams from 1956 to 1959. The Huskies were Yankee Conference Champions in 1958 and 1959. From 1956 to 1959 the University of Connecticut was undefeated in the Yankee Conference. After his college days, Dennis played for the Hartford Saints football team. He also played in the Friendship Bowl II in Kissimmee, Florida in 1983. He continued to coach youth in football for many years, long after his playing days were over. The National Football Foundation has recently honored him for his "Outstanding Contribution to Football.” |
